Phthalates in the Charles and the Merrimack rivers.

چکیده
The identification and quantification of individual organic compounds in polluted water has been recognized as a prerequisite to rational pollution abatement planning (1). In the past, this information has been difficult to obtain primarily due to the lack of suitable analytical methods. The last several years, however, have seen the development of powerful organic analytical techniques which are suitable for the complex mixtures that are to be expected from polluted water. Premier among these methods is computerized combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). We have applied this technique, as well as high-pressure liquid chromatography (LC), to a study of the lipophilic organic compounds present in the Charles and Merrimack rivers. The lipophilic organic compounds were extracted from river water with methylene chloride. The solvent layer was separated and evaporated under reduced pressure. This extract was then analyzed by GC/MS. Details of the sampling and extraction procedure can be found elsewhere (2). A procedural blank showed only very small amounts of material and was judged acceptable. The mass spectral data were interpreted with various computer-assisted techniques (3-5). Evidence for episodic acidification effects on migrating Atlantic salmon Salmo salar smolts.
Field studies were conducted to determine levels of gill aluminium as an index of acidification effects on migrating Atlantic salmon Salmo salar smolts in the north-eastern U.S.A. along mainstem river migration corridors in several major river basins. Smolts emigrating from the Connecticut River, where most (but not all) tributaries were well buffered, had low or undetectable levels of gill alu...

The dialkyl- or alkyl/aryl esters of 1, 2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, which are known as Phthalates, are high-production volume synthetic chemicals and considered as environmental pollutants, due to high production and uses in community, plastics industry and common consuming products. Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is the most abundant phthalate in the environment. Human exposure with DEHP c...
متن کاملA Developed Electromembrane Technique Based on Flat Electrospun Membrane Coupled with Gas-chromatography for the Determination of Phthalates in Different Water Samples
In this work, we successfully developed electromembrane extraction via preparation of an electrospun flat membrane based on device. The polyurethane-membrane was prepared by electrospinning method and used in EME. Affecting parameters on membrane preparation were optimized by Taguchi design. The developed method was used for extraction of phthalates as typical molecules and the proposed method ...
متن کاملHCl- Etched Steel Fiber for Determination of Phthalates in Water Samples by Solid-Phase Microextraction
In the present work, a stainless steel wire was etched by hydrochloric acid during a chemical etching process. The obtained black layer on the surface of the fiber was used as sorbent for extraction of trace amount of phthalates in the aqueous samples by solid phase microextraction. New fiber efficiency was investigated using a home-made solid-phase microextraction (SPME) device and gas chr...
متن کاملارزیابی خطر سرطانزایی و غیر سرطانزایی مواجهه با استرهای فتالات از طریق مصرف آبهای بطری شده در طول زمان نگهداری
Background and Objectives: Bottles for packaging drinking water represent one of the most popular uses of plastic and polymer additives. Recently, public concerns related to possibility of exposure to chemicals through the consumption of polyethylene terephthalate bottled water has caused great concern to consumers. Phthalate esters, as a class of these compounds, are often classified as endocr...
